The Heritage Centre situated at Granny’s Pool at the bottom of Harbour Road is considered the ecological and historical centre of the Village. The building was originally the National Sea Rescue Institute base and is now the home of the St Francis Kromme Trust - Heritage Eco Centre.
The St Francis Kromme Trust was formed some thirty years ago to promote environmental awareness and to protect our heritage for future generations. We invite visitors to explore the centre which depicts the natural wonders of the greater St Francis area. Exhibits of shells, flowering plants, whales, fish, frogs, birds, wetlands, trees and the estuary with its fascinating life in a constantly changing environment whet the appetite for further exploration of the area.
Thanks to the enthusiasm of Caryl Logie and Godfried Potgieter of the Fourcade Botanical group,
a spectacular display of indigenous wild flowering plants is exhibited in the foyer throughout the year. A walk in the Community Garden just a stone’s throw away will be all the more enriched with your new botanical knowledge.
Fascinating details enlighten visitors on the Chokka rich waters of the area, our marine rescue and rehabilitation facility, and beach restoration project complete with aerial photos. Also keep up to date with the proposed wind farm and nuclear plant developments in the Kouga area.
The centre is used for a variety of informative activities for the whole St Francis Bay community.
