The Chokka Trail, a 56km 4 day/3 night slack packing route between Oyster Bay, Cape St Francis and St Francis Bay in the Eastern Cape’s Kouga Region, has tweaked the route to add two days of golf to this popular trail.

With St Francis being a popular destination for golfers and other sporting enthusiasts, it made sense to include the game of golf.  The Chokka Trail Golf Edition starts with a game of golf on the St Francis Golf Course on day 1, on day 2 hikers tackle the Sand River, an unique dune bypass system, day 3 is a coastal hike between Mostertshoek and Port St Francis with many highlights - a blow hole, shipwreck, unknown grave and beautiful fynbos to be seen, and the final day will be 18 holes on the St Francis Links, one of the top 10 courses in South Africa.

Other highlights of the Chokka Trail is a visit to a penguin rehabilitation centre, the working harbour of Port St Francis, a canal cruise on the famous St Francis canals as well as a calamari and local wine tasting, plus witnessing proof of life as far as 2000 years ago when you come across middens and ancient fish traps.

The Chokka Trail Golf Edition is 30km long plus the two days of golf, and includes 4 night’s accommodation.

Non-hiking golfers, who would like to stay part of the group, can play the Hankey Golf Course, Zwartenbosch Golf Course in Humansdorp or the Fynbosch Golf Course outside Eersterivier on hike days, and join their friends in the late afternoon for dinner at the respective accommodation establishments.  These games of golf will be for their own account.

Accommodation is in top class guest houses and a resort.  The price is R6 300 per person sharing, and includes all meals, accommodation, two games of golf plus a golf cart at the St Francis Links, the canal cruise and calamari tasting.  You only pay for your drinks, or for additional golf games.  More information is available on www.chokkatrail.co.za or phone Esti Stewart on 073 825 0835.
